Outside The Park Camping - North Rim DeMotte Campground The North Rim campground is available for winter camping, with a backcountry permit, for those cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or hiking the 45 miles overland from Jacob Lake.No hikers will be allowed to pass through this area under any circumstances. The closure area will be from Cottonwood Campground to the North Kaibab Trailhead. In order to safely rebuild and maintain the North Kaibab Trail and repair damaged sections of pipeline, there will be a continuous trail closure in effect from April 12 through June 2, 2023. The North Kaibab Trail and North Rim pipeline received significant damage from rockfall and landslides, making many areas unsafe and impassable for inner canyon hikers.The North Rim Campground is scheduled to reopen on June 9, 2023.Opening has been delayed this year because of the heavy snow load. State Route 67 and most North Rim services are scheduled to reopen for the 2023 season on J(subject to change). On Thursday, December 1, State Route 67, and the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park closed to all vehicle traffic for the winter.
